According to the Padma (Lotus) Purana, Pushkar, 15km northwest of Ajmer, came into existence when Lord Brahma, the inventor, dropped his lotus flower (pushpa) to earth from his hand (kar) to kill a demon. At the three spots where the petals landed, water magically appeared in the midst of the desert to form three small blue lakes, and it was on the banks of the largest of these that Brahma consequently convened a gathering of some 900,000 celestial beings - the entire Hindu pantheon. 

Places to see in Pushkar:
Savitri Temple -
A temple devoted to the first wife of Lord Brahma the Savitri temple is situated on the hill behind the Brahma Temple which can be reached by a flight of steps. The temple offers a panoramic view of the lake and the neighboring desertscape.  

Pushkar Lake - One of the most sacred sites for Hindus, Pushkar Lake is the most famous tourist attraction in the holy town of Pushkar. It's a beautiful semi-circular lake with 52 lovely ghats nearby it. According to beliefs, a dip in the Pushkar Lake on the auspicious occasion of Karthik Poornima brings deliverance to devotees. 

The Brahma Temple - It is the only temple in India devoted to Lord Braham. The temple is marked by a red spire and over the entrance gateway us a beautiful statue carrier of Lord Brahma.  

Pushkar Fair & Festivals
Pushkar Fair (Oct.-Nov.) :- A colorful and lively fair, it is one of the major cattle fairs in the country held every year at Pushkar on  Kartik Poornima (full moon, October - November) . The 9 day event is careful to be the most striking animal fair in the world. As the fair has religious consequence too, pilgrims and tradesmen come in thousands from far and near.

How to Reach Pushkar:
By Air -
Jaipur is the nearest airport from Pushkar. It is about 138 km away from the Pushkar town. Regular buses from Jaipur are available for Pushkar.

By Road - Ajmer, about 11 Km from Pushkar, is the nearest railhead and well connected to Delhi, Ahmedabad, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur Udaipur and Abu Road by regular trains.

By Road - Pushkar is well connected to other cities and towns of Rajasthan. Regular bus services operate from Pushkar/Ajmer to popular destinations around.
