Bharatpur
situated in the North eastern part of Rajasthan,
Bharatpur is identified for its world well-known bird
sanctuary- ranked amongst the finest bird sanctuaries of the
world. Also known as 'the Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan', the
town is located at a distance of 184 Km from Delhi and 55 Km
from Agra. Once an impregnable well fortified city,
Bharatpur was founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733 AD.
The town was the stronghold of the Jats in the 17th and 18th
century and along with Deeg and Dholpur has played a very
important role in the history of Rajasthan.

Brij Festival:
The Brij Festival takes place a few days before Holi,
(the festival of colors) in the month of March. Held in
honor of Lord Krishna, this festival is marked by verve and
zest. Villagers, in gay, multihued attire, can be seen
singing and performing the Raslila dance (dance depicting
the immortal love-story of Radha and Krishna).
Gangaur Festival:
Gangaur Festival: (Mar - Apr) Festival of maidens and
married women, dedicated to Gauri, the incarnation of
Goddess Parvati. A gracious procession is taken out, married
women pray for the prosperity and long life of their
husbands, while young girls seek blessings for a good life
partner.
Dussehra Mela:
The festival of Dussehra indicates the triumph of
good over evil, of light over darkness as signified by the
capture of the evil Ravana by Lord Rama. Celebrated all over
India with gusto, the festival is held in the Hindu month of
Ashvin that is generally September or October.
